Saudi Arabia – The construction of a new refinery in Manifah included free-standing flare towers (used for burning off excess gas). Each tower consisted of three sections, with each section measuring approximately 20 meters. Every individual section had to be tensioned and aligned before the next section could be installed.
Tensioning was performed using steel cables anchored at three points. Each cable had to be tensioned to a precise, specified load, with the tower’s deviation allowed only within a tolerance of 0–10 mm. The maximum tension applied to a single cable is 24 tons.
