Dismountable flare at a height of 130 m

Handling of piping components for a dismountable flare tower. Operations involving winches and pulley systems during a flare replacement.

Project Execution

Work performed directly
on-site.

We worked on a demountable flare stack with a height of 130m, composed of 7 pipe sections; each section was 18m long, measured 42 inches in diameter, and weighed 8 tons. The flare tip itself weighed 2.5 tons. We hoisted the pipe sections using two winches, each equipped with its own pulley block system for lifting.

The pulley blocks were attached to the sides of the pipe sections, and we dismantled the structure by lifting the flare assembly section by section. The flare tip was not replaced; instead, it underwent minor repairs before being reinstalled. We also replaced the temperature-sensing cables running from the flare tip to the first electrical control box located on the final pipe section.

The entire operation was completed in 6 days, following 2 days of preparation. Our role was to oversee the work process and manage the coordination of tasks. We finished the project one day ahead of schedule.

The project was managed by the Saudi Arabian company Expertise – www.expertindus.com
